Insulin stimulates fat storage and is a major factor in obesity. When we eat less carbs and more protein, the body decreases its reliance on insulin and fat storage decreases. This is called a ketogenic diet and it is a low carb diet that can help with weight loss. When you are trying to lose weight, you need to keep insulin low. The ketogenic diet also improves blood glucose control, improves blood lipids, and improves blood sugar control. If you are not overweight or obese, you can have a ketogenic diet, but you need to have a lot of carbohydrates to make the diet work.
